- Pod and container securityContext are now values-configurable
(outline.securityContext.pod/container) with hardened defaults:
runAsNonRoot (uid/gid 1001, the upstream image's nodejs user),
readOnlyRootFilesystem, allowPrivilegeEscalation false, all
capabilities dropped. /tmp is mounted as an emptyDir for Outline's
import/export scratch files.
- Probes moved to values (outline.livenessProbe/readinessProbe/
startupProbe); defaults are exactly the previously hardcoded ones.
- Ingress raised to the repo standard: ingress.className (default
nginx), ingress.annotations merged with the always-set annotations,
ingress.enabled flag; domain/clusterIssuer stay required and the
TLS secret name was already conform.
- Additive outline.env block rendered through tpl with value/
secretKeyRef/configMapKeyRef forms; chart-managed env stays in the
template.
Major bump 3.1.1+up1.9.2 -> 4.0.0+up1.9.2 (runtime behavior changes
through hardening).
Part of #32
Establish the flexible ingress standard from #32 in template-chart and
document it in README/CLAUDE.md: ingress.domain and ingress.clusterIssuer
stay required, new ingress.className value (default nginx) replaces the
hardcoded ingressClassName, new optional ingress.annotations are merged
with the cert-manager cluster-issuer annotation, TLS secret name
unchanged (tls-<release>-<chart>-ingress).
Apply the standard to cyberchef and patchmon (the two charts without an
own batch-3 major PR) and make the patchmon probes values-configurable
(server + guacd, rendered through tpl so the default Host header keeps
following ingress.domain). Defaults render semantically identical to the
previous hardcoded output.
cyberchef 5.0.1 -> 5.1.0, patchmon 5.0.1 -> 5.1.0 (minor, additive).
- Add icon: to all 17 Chart.yaml (official project icons); removes the
last helm lint --strict INFO finding across the repo
- Rename template files to the <app>.<kind>.yaml scheme (apache-tika,
gotenberg, teamspeak-server PVC, paperless-ngx configmap) - pure
git mv, no content changes
- template-chart: fix missing space in {{ .Chart.Name}} and rename the
ConfigMap resource -config-map -> -configmap (chart is never published)
- rallly: fix typos in required messages (rallySecret -> ralllySecret,
databseSecret -> databaseSecret)
- README: document the deliberate PVC-name exception from the naming
scheme (renames would provision new empty volumes)
- Patch-bump all 16 published charts
Rendered resources are byte-identical for all published charts (only
helm's '# Source:' comments change for the renamed files); the only
render change is the template-chart ConfigMap name.
Part of #32
The delegation nginx image was hardcoded as nginx:1.28.3 in the
deployment template. It is now rendered from the new values
matrix.delegation.image.repository / matrix.delegation.image.tag,
defaulting to nginx:1.30.4 (current stable line, tag verified against
Docker Hub). README documents that auxiliary/sidecar images are pinned
via values and reviewed with every app-version update round.
Chart version: 4.1.1+upv1.159.0 -> 4.2.0+upv1.159.0 (minor: additive
values change).
Chart rewrite for the 2.x single-server architecture: one stateless
server deployment (frontend embedded, /api served by the same process),
no PVC, single service and ingress path, optional guacd sidecar
(disabled by default), 2.x env vocabulary (TRUST_PROXY, readonly role),
probes send the public hostname as Host header.
Fixes#29: all three reported spots (PVC storageClass guard, RWX assets
PVC, frontend nginx 'backend' hostname) are removed by this rewrite.
Major app jump 2.20.15 -> 3.0.5. Chart major bump (7.1.1 -> 8.0.0):
the paperless.files.barcodes.scanner value is removed (pyzbar and
PAPERLESS_CONSUMER_BARCODE_SCANNER were removed upstream), the
paperless.ocr.mode default changes from the removed "skip" to "auto",
and the startup probe budget is raised to 600s for the one-time
Whoosh -> Tantivy index rebuild. New optional values:
paperless.ocr.archiveFileGeneration, paperless.files.deleteDuplicates,
oidc.provider.tokenAuthMethod.
Major jump 10.22.1 -> 11.4.0: the upstream image switched to
nginxinc/nginx-unprivileged (serving port 80 -> 8080, pid/temp dirs
under /tmp). Adjust container port, writable-volume mounts and the
pod security context (sysctl net.ipv4.ip_unprivileged_port_start no
longer needed). Chart major bump 4.1.0 -> 5.0.0 accordingly.
Nine non-critical app-version bumps, each with a chart patch bump:
- apache-tika 3.2.3.0-full -> 3.3.1.0-full
- gotenberg 8.26.0 -> 8.36.0
- matrix-synapse v1.149.1 -> v1.159.0
- rallly 4.8.1 -> 4.12.3
- samba 4.23.5 -> 4.23.10
- urlaubsverwaltung 6.5.0 -> 6.7.0
- voucher-vault 1.27.4 -> 1.30.1
- zipline 4.6.4 -> 4.7.0
- teamspeak-server v6.0.0-beta8 -> 6.0.0-beta12.1 (new tag format has no v prefix)
Release notes of every chart were checked for environment-variable
changes; none of the charts needs an env adjustment.
The teamspeak-server install-test is reactivated: beta12.1 ships a
valid default license, so the exclusion is removed, CI fixtures are
added under ci/teamspeak-server/, and the install-test was verified
in a local k3d cluster. README list of excluded charts updated.
Every Deployment/StatefulSet now takes its replica count from a replicas
value (default 1, explicit 0 allowed) via a new per-chart <chart>.replicas
helper; the helper uses a kindIs "invalid" nil check so an explicit 0 is
not swallowed by Helm's default function. A chart-global scaleDown flag
(default false) takes precedence: it renders every workload with
replicas: 0 and suspends the paperless-ngx consume CronJob, stopping the
app without uninstalling it (PVCs, Secrets, Services and Ingress remain).
Defaults leave the rendered manifests byte-identical to main, so all
published charts get a minor version bump; the template-chart carries the
reference helper implementation and stays unversioned.
Fixes#25
Every chart now renders its container resources through a duplicated
_helpers.tpl helper (reference implementation in template-chart): requests
ship as chart defaults, missing memory and ephemeral-storage limits are
computed as resources.limitFactor x the request (default 3, satisfactory
keeps 2 to preserve its previously published 8Gi limit), an explicitly set
limit always wins, and a CPU limit is only rendered when set explicitly.
Fixed limit defaults are removed from all values.yaml files; teamspeak-server
gains a values-driven resources block instead of hardcoded template values.
Major version bump for all published charts.
- validation happens via strict lint, PR pipeline and install-test stage
- new charts need ci/ fixtures or an exclusion entry
- codify semver conventions (patch/minor/major)
- app updates via PRs with stepped major upgrades
The StatefulSet spec lacked the mandatory serviceName field, causing
permanent drift in Fleet (spec.serviceName reported as modified).
Points to the chart's existing cwa-service. Bumps chart to 2.0.1.
New install-test job in validate-charts.yml: for exactly the charts a PR
changes, install them into an ephemeral k3d cluster (pinned k3d v5.9.0,
k3s v1.35.5-k3s1) and require every Deployment/StatefulSet to become
Ready. Runs non-blocking (continue-on-error) during the stabilization
phase.
Fixtures live at the repo root under ci/ (not inside chart directories,
so they neither trigger publishes on merge nor get packaged): a stub
OnePasswordItem CRD, per-chart test values and fixtures (dummy secrets
with in-cluster DSNs, throwaway postgres/redis/dex, synapse-generate
seed job, static hostPath PVs where charts pin storage classes or need
RWX), plus a shared ci/run-install-test.sh harness that also runs
locally.
Excluded with documented reasons (ci/excluded-charts.txt): satisfactory
(multi-GB image), teamspeak-server (TS6 beta license expired, image
crashes on start), template-chart (placeholder image).
All 14 non-excluded charts verified locally in k3d using only the
committed fixtures.
Add securityContext hardening (runAsNonRoot, readOnlyRootFilesystem,
capabilities drop ALL, allowPrivilegeEscalation false) to the 10 workloads
that lacked it: apache-tika, cyberchef, gotenberg, homeassistant,
matrix-delegation-nginx, paperless-server, paperless-consume cronjob
(plus automountServiceAccountToken false), patchmon-frontend,
urlaubsverwaltung and zipline. All contexts are configurable via
securityContext.pod / securityContext.container in values.yaml; writable
paths are provided as emptyDirs. Image-forced deviations (Home Assistant
root start for s6-overlay + NET_RAW for discovery, paperless root init
container for /run ownership) are documented in the charts' values.yaml.
Major version bump for every changed published chart.
Every chart was installed twice in a throwaway k3d cluster (origin/main
vs this branch) with real Postgres/Redis/dex instances and observed for
readiness ordering, stability and dependency-outage behavior. Findings:
- voucher-vault: Django only accepts Hosts 127.0.0.1 and the configured
DOMAIN; the default probe Host (pod IP) always got 400. Probes now
send 'Host: 127.0.0.1'.
- zipline: /api/healthcheck includes the database, so liveness now uses
'/' (readiness/startup keep /api/healthcheck). Verified live: on a
Postgres outage the pod turns NotReady within 30s and is never
restarted by the kubelet.
- outline: '/' also returns 500 when the database is down, so there is
no dependency-free endpoint; all three probes use /_health.
Every container in every Deployment/StatefulSet now defines all three
probes. The paperless-ngx consume CronJob intentionally has none (batch
workload).
- Add probes: apache-tika, calibre-web-automated, cyberchef, gotenberg,
homeassistant, patchmon-backend, samba (tcp/445), teamspeak-server
(tcp/30033), zipline (/api/healthcheck)
- Fix voucher-vault null probe values with real defaults
- Fix startup-probe semantics in template-chart and rallly (no
initialDelaySeconds, generous failureThreshold)
- Switch outline probes to its /_health endpoint
- Add readiness/startup probes to satisfactory
- Add startup probes to matrix-synapse, matrix-delegation-nginx,
paperless-server, patchmon-frontend, urlaubsverwaltung
- Major version bump for all published charts
On every pull request, detect which chart directories were touched and
run helm lint --strict, helm package, and a chart-version bump check
for exactly those charts. PRs without chart changes skip the build.
Fixes#5
The chart is no longer needed. Removes the chart directory, its publish
workflow, and its row in the README chart table. Already published
versions remain in the registry.
Fixes#7
Without a branch filter, any push on any branch touching a chart
directory packaged and published the chart to the registry.
