bentopdf, apache-tika, gotenberg, rss-bridge, searxng, ytdlp-web-player. One major each, networkPolicy.enabled defaults to true. Three of them differ from the simple case in ways worth naming: GOTENBERG gets DNS-only egress as a deliberate, documented trade. It drives a headless Chromium, and 3000 is its probe port - so it is reachable from the whole cluster by default, and an egress rule for 80/443 would turn a service anyone can POST to into a way of fetching arbitrary URLs. The price is the remote-asset half of HTML conversion: inline content converts, images the page would have fetched silently do not. That degrades a PDF instead of failing a pod, so nothing alerts on it, which is why it is in the template header, in values.yaml and in NOTES.txt, with extraPorts: [80, 443] named as the knowing opt-in. RSS-BRIDGE, SEARXNG and YTDLP-WEB-PLAYER get the open internet on their web ports, because reaching other people's servers IS the application and this object cannot name a host. Said plainly in each, so none of them reads stricter than it is. What the cap still buys is real: no other outbound port, so a compromised pod reaches no database, no mail server and no SSH anywhere. APACHE-TIKA and GOTENBERG render no Ingress - their consumers are other pods, in other namespaces here - so neither gets an ingressController value and both say in NOTES.txt that narrowing probeSources means listing the consumers' namespaces in allowedNamespaces in the same change, or extraction and conversion stop. YTDLP-WEB-PLAYER names the gap this convention has: its oauth2-proxy subchart renders its own Deployment with its own labels and ships no policy, so with the proxy enabled the pod that actually faces the Ingress is unrestricted in both directions. Nothing in this chart can change that - an upstream chart is consumed as it comes - so it is written down instead. ci/outline/test-values.yaml gains egress.extraPorts: [5556]. The CI dex runs there rather than on 443, and Outline fetches the discovery document at boot - so this is the chart's documented escape hatch used for exactly the case it was written for, and the one place in the repo where the cap's upgrade risk is actually exercised. Group 1 of the #114 sweep: the charts that render exactly one Ingress object and set no behaviour-bearing nginx annotation - bentopdf, garage, patchmon, rallly, searxng, sure, urlaubsverwaltung, voucher-vault. Each gets the form the pilot (cyberchef, PR #115) fixed and template-chart carries: an httpRoute block (enabled/parentRefs/hostnames, off by default), a template rendering ONLY an HTTPRoute with parentRefs - no Gateway, no gatewayClassName, no Certificate, no implementation-specific policy object - render aborts on both modes at once (naming both value paths), on an empty parentRefs and on a missing hostname, empty hostnames meaning [ingress.domain], a schema entry closed against unknown keys with an open parentRef definition, and a NOTES.txt that names the active mode and what the mode costs. Minor, additive, defaults unchanged: `helm template` with each chart's CI values is byte-identical to origin/main for seven of the eight, and for sure identical in every rendered value (the diff is two YAML comment lines). Three findings that were not in the plan, each argued in the file it changes: sure derived RAILS_ASSUME_SSL/RAILS_FORCE_SSL from ingress.enabled alone. Gateway mode sets that false by construction while TLS is still terminated at the Gateway, so both flags would have gone false: insecure cookies, no HSTS, http:// links, with a Ready pod and a working UI as the only symptom. They now read sure.publishedOverTls (ingress.enabled OR httpRoute.enabled), which is ingress.enabled while httpRoute.enabled is false - hence still Minor. garage claimed, in its Ingress template and its schema, that nothing outside that template reads ingress.domain. The HTTPRoute reads it, so the claim now holds only while both modes are off. Corrected rather than left standing. garage also depends on an upload limit it does not set: its annotations comment tells the operator to set proxy-body-size: "0" because ingress-nginx truncates S3 uploads at 1 MB. proxy-body-size has no Gateway-API counterpart, so its Gateway-mode NOTES prints that the limit is the Gateway's. README's list of affected charts named five and now names garage as a sixth. clusterIssuer needed no change in any of the eight: its only required() sits inside the Ingress template behind ingress.enabled, the same no-op the pilot found. Annotation guidance that stops applying in Gateway mode moved into the Gateway branch of NOTES.txt for bentopdf (X-Robots-Tag) and searxng (forward-auth). CI: one render overlay per chart under ci/httproute/, so the assertion is not vacuum-green - ci/run-httproute-match-test.sh goes from 4 held assertions over 2 charts to 20 over 10. The install-test fixtures stay in Ingress mode: the install runs one configuration per chart, cyberchef already pays that price against the real Gateway-API CRDs, and for garage the Ingress is the only place its Service port is referenced by NAME. Not proven, by construction: that traffic flows. No Gateway controller runs in CI. Not run locally either: k3d, Docker, Trivy. Part of #114 |

bentopdf: new chart for the PDF toolbox (1.0.0+up2.8.7)
BentoPDF computes entirely in the visitor's browser; the container only serves static files through nginx. The chart is therefore close to cyberchef - same nginx-unprivileged base, uid 101, port 8080, probes on "/" - with four differences that shaped the design. Runtime config.json. The one setting reachable at runtime is the tool list. It is a static file in the middle of the web root, so it is mounted by subPath: a directory mount would hide the whole application. subPath mounts are never refreshed by the kubelet, which makes the checksum/config annotation (#82) load-bearing rather than decorative. bentopdf.config is passed through verbatim, like searxng's settings, so a key upstream adds tomorrow is a values change and not a chart change. Three env switches that would kill the pod. PORT, DISABLE_IPV6 and ROBOTS_NOINDEX are implemented as "sed -i" against files in the image, run under "set -e" in /docker-entrypoint.d/, and the base image's entrypoint aborts when one of them fails. With readOnlyRootFilesystem: true the pod therefore never starts instead of ignoring the switch - measured in k3d as CrashLoopBackOff, exit 1, "sed: can't create temp file '/etc/nginx/nginx.confXXXXXX': Read-only file system". None of the three is offered as a first-class value; values.yaml names the failure picture and the escape hatch (env block plus readOnlyRootFilesystem: false). Writable paths were measured, not copied from the upstream chart. /etc/nginx/tmp holds the pid file and /var/cache/nginx is where nginx creates its temp directories at startup - without it the master aborts with 'mkdir() "/var/cache/nginx/client_temp" failed'. /var/run is deliberately not mounted: the running pod proves it is unnecessary. Everything else about BentoPDF is a build-time argument and out of reach for any chart; values.yaml says so explicitly rather than leaving it to be discovered. Two accepted consequences are named there too: some tools fetch WASM modules from a public CDN at runtime, and the served pages carry a canonical link to the vendor's site. Fixes #174 |
