Group 3 of the #114 sweep, and the one chart where the convention had to bend
rather than the chart. homeassistant is the DOCUMENTED INGRESS EXCEPTION
(README): upstream's flexible values, a list of hosts each with its own list
of paths, instead of the repo's required domain/clusterIssuer pair. The
exception stays - nothing here unifies it.
NO httpRoute.hostnames KEY, which is the freesailarr shape from group 2 and
for the same reason: there is no ingress.domain to fall back to, and a
chart-global hostname list could not say which host entry - and therefore
which set of paths - it belonged to. So httpRoute carries only enabled and
parentRefs, the hostnames come from ingress.hosts, and the chart renders ONE
HTTPRoute PER ENTRY with one rule per path of that entry. One object with
several hostnames would be wrong, not merely different: an HTTPRoute's rules
apply to every hostname of the object, and per-host paths are this chart's
whole point. The schema rejects httpRoute.hostnames outright, so the absence
is enforced rather than merely intended.
ingress.hosts is therefore read in BOTH modes and is not an Ingress-only
value. ingress.className, ingress.tls and ingress.annotations are not read in
Gateway mode: class and certificate belong to the Gateway's listener, and
there is no annotation channel.
pathType IS THE SHARP EDGE, AND THE CHART'S DEFAULT IS THE AWKWARD VALUE.
Ingress has Exact/Prefix/ImplementationSpecific; the Gateway API has
Exact/PathPrefix/RegularExpression. Exact and Prefix map cleanly.
ImplementationSpecific - the default in values.yaml - means "ask the
controller" and has NO counterpart, so:
- on "/" it renders as PathPrefix. Every controller treats a root
ImplementationSpecific path as a prefix match, so the chart's own default
works in this mode unchanged (verified: the untouched default renders a
valid route).
- on ANY OTHER path the render ABORTS, naming the value and asking for
Prefix or Exact. In ingress-nginx - this chart's default class - an
ImplementationSpecific sub-path is a REGEX, and PathPrefix is not one.
Mapping it silently would change how the path matches while the render
stayed green, which is exactly the class of defect #118 was.
RegularExpression is deliberately not offered as an escape hatch: its support
level is Implementation-specific, which decision 1 of #114 forbids.
NOTHING WAS MEASURED ON THE LIVE CLUSTER FOR THIS CHART, because there is
nothing to measure: homeassistant is NOT DEPLOYED in jk-cluster (checked
2026-10-12 - 23 Ingress objects cluster-wide, none this chart's, and no
workload of it in any namespace). So it is the one chart of the six with no
operator-supplied annotation to lose. values.yaml and NOTES.txt say that as
an absence of evidence about this installation rather than as a property of
the chart.
Route NAMES carry the entry's INDEX, not its hostname - a hostname is not a
dependable object-name fragment. Consequence named in values.yaml and in the
template: reordering ingress.hosts renames routes and therefore recreates
rather than edits them. Harmless, since a route holds no state and no
certificate.
ci/httproute/homeassistant.yaml has to SUPPLY HOSTS, which no other overlay in
the sweep does, and it adds coverage the install-test never had: this chart's
ingress.enabled defaults to FALSE and the fixture does not switch it on, so
no routing object was exercised at all before. Two entries on purpose - a
plain one, and one with two paths including an Exact - because that second
entry is what proves the chart renders one object per host rather than one
object with several hostnames. 5 assertions over 2 routes and 3 rules.
NOTES.txt asks $published where it asked ingress.enabled, and the
trusted_proxies section now warns that moving from an Ingress to a Gateway
CHANGES the proxy's pod network: a list carried over unchanged turns every
request into a 400 if the CIDR differs, or silently keeps attributing every
client to one address if it does not.
Minor: additive, defaults unchanged. Empty helm template diff against
origin/main, both with the fixture as it stands and with ingress.enabled=true.
Part of #114
The doc comments on the resources and defaultedDict helpers justified the
copy-per-chart with "charts in this repo deliberately have no dependencies".
That rule fell with #214: a dependency is admissible now, just expensive, and
it sits in the README as guideline 14, not 13. The justification still holds,
but its reason is a different one - sharing the helper would mean a library
chart, a second artefact to publish, version and pull for something that
changes about once a year. searxng got that wording in PR #38; this carries it
to 21 further charts, 40 occurrences in all.
rss-bridge is deliberately left out. Its install-test fails on the Gitea
runner for a reason that predates this branch, and touching the chart would
keep it in the install-test matrix and the check red. Its copy of the sentence
is carried by #51, which has to open the chart anyway.
Comments only: every touched chart renders byte-identical against its
ci/<chart>/test-values.yaml. Each published chart takes a patch bump,
appVersion and +up suffix untouched; template-chart is never published and
takes none, but is corrected because every new chart inherits from it.
Two repo files carried the same claim at no version cost:
validate-charts.yml explained the all-charts quantity render test with it, and
change-app-version.yml still counted nine images for freesailarr - MediathekArr
made it ten.
Part of #43. This chart was cited throughout that issue as the one that already has a NOTES.txt and therefore serves as the style reference for the whole programme. The file contained the single line "Hello :)". It is replaced here by the real thing, built on the pattern the later charts (zipline, voucher-vault, urlaubsverwaltung) established in the meantime.
It prints what an operator would otherwise have to read out of the templates: the access URL assembled from the chart's upstream-style ingress block (hosts x tls, so the scheme is derived per host rather than assumed) or the port-forward command; the three fields the 1Password item must carry (config, http-config, recorder-config) and how configuration.yaml has to include the other two itself; and the traps of this particular chart - onboarding hands the instance to the first visitor, use_x_forwarded_for/trusted_proxies decides between 400 Bad Request and one client IP for everyone, the three config files are read-only subPath mounts that the kubelet never refreshes, safe mode lets a broken configuration pass the probes, and helm uninstall deletes the PVC that holds all of the state.
Conditional sections cover scaleDown/replicas 0, replicas > 1 on a single ReadWriteOnce claim, a NET_RAW override that silently kills device discovery, a non-empty env block, the chart placeholder host chart-example.local, and the case where ingress.tls names a Secret while no cert-manager annotation is set - this chart adds none by itself, unlike the rest of the repo.
No domain appears in the file: hosts come from the values, examples use example.com. Minor bump, appVersion unchanged; a NOTES.txt changes no rendered object, verified by diffing helm template before and after.
No ingress gate change: this chart already honours ingress.enabled, and
its ingress block keeps the upstream-style host/tls lists that the README
documents as an exception. The schema models that shape as it is instead
of pushing the repo's domain/clusterIssuer pair onto it, and the list
entries stay open because they go verbatim into the Ingress spec.
The domain checkpoint ran over values.yaml and templates and came back
empty: ingress.domain does not exist in this chart at all.
1. values.schema.json (#68): additionalProperties: false on every
chart-owned object level. Pod-spec passthrough (volumes, volumeMounts,
nodeSelector, tolerations, affinity, ingress hosts/tls) stays open.
2. Null-safety for hardening, probes and resources (#99).
This chart's hardening is a documented deviation and the fallbacks
reproduce it exactly: the pod context is deliberately EMPTY, because
the official image must start as root (s6-overlay does its setup as
uid 0 and the image has no non-root user), and capabilities.add keeps
NET_RAW, without which device discovery (DHCP watcher, ping/arp
integrations) logs "Operation not permitted".
core.storage stays deliberately not null-safe: an erased block yields an
invalid PVC, which is the loud class #99 excludes.
The #82 limitation around the 1Password-backed config Secret is
untouched: Helm never sees the content, so it cannot be hashed, and the
values.yaml note about the manual rollout restart stays as it is.
Rendering with normal values is byte-identical to 5.0.0.
Home Assistant reads configuration.yaml, http-config.yaml and
recorder-config.yaml from a 1Password-backed Secret, mounted with subPath.
Two different gaps hide behind that, and only one of them can be closed.
Repointing secrets.configSecretRef at a different vault item used to leave the
running pod on the old configuration. That is now covered: the pod template
carries checksum/secret-ref over the rendered OnePasswordItem. The annotation
is named apart from checksum/config on purpose - it only promises that the
config source changed, not the config itself - matching the pattern
minecraft-server introduced.
Changing the CONTENT of the item in the vault still does not restart anything,
and cannot: Helm never sees the content, so there is nothing to hash. The
operator's own auto-restart annotation is no way out either - onepassword-
operator 1.12.0 enumerates exactly one workload type in its secret-update
handler (appsv1.DeploymentList) and this workload is a StatefulSet, so the
annotation would be a silent no-op advertising a guarantee it cannot keep. It
is deliberately not set. values.yaml states the limitation and the manual
rollout restart it requires; the README guideline records the operator finding,
the annotation precedence trap, and the checksum/secret-ref pattern so neither
is rediscovered the hard way.
Major bump: runtime behavior changes - changing the secret reference now costs
a restart. For this release the effect is preventive, since it currently runs
at zero replicas via scaleDown.
- apache-tika, gotenberg, cyberchef, homeassistant, patchmon: additive env
value blocks rendered through tpl (value, secretKeyRef and configMapKeyRef
forms), following the template-chart/outline pattern; patchmon gets separate
blocks for the server container and the guacd sidecar.
- homeassistant: ingress.className now defaults to nginx; an empty className
omits ingressClassName from the rendered Ingress, so the flexible upstream
ingress style stays intact.
- outline, paperless-ngx: remove the ingress.clusterIssuer defaults
(letsencrypt / letsencrypt-issuer) - the value is now strictly required,
consistent with the repo-wide ingress standard; CI test-values set it
explicitly.
Chart bumps: apache-tika 7.2.0, gotenberg 4.2.0, cyberchef 5.2.0,
patchmon 5.2.0, homeassistant 4.2.0 (minor); outline 5.0.0,
paperless-ngx 10.0.0 (major).
- Add icon: to all 17 Chart.yaml (official project icons); removes the
last helm lint --strict INFO finding across the repo
- Rename template files to the <app>.<kind>.yaml scheme (apache-tika,
gotenberg, teamspeak-server PVC, paperless-ngx configmap) - pure
git mv, no content changes
- template-chart: fix missing space in {{ .Chart.Name}} and rename the
ConfigMap resource -config-map -> -configmap (chart is never published)
- rallly: fix typos in required messages (rallySecret -> ralllySecret,
databseSecret -> databaseSecret)
- README: document the deliberate PVC-name exception from the naming
scheme (renames would provision new empty volumes)
- Patch-bump all 16 published charts
Rendered resources are byte-identical for all published charts (only
helm's '# Source:' comments change for the renamed files); the only
render change is the template-chart ConfigMap name.
Part of #32
Every Deployment/StatefulSet now takes its replica count from a replicas
value (default 1, explicit 0 allowed) via a new per-chart <chart>.replicas
helper; the helper uses a kindIs "invalid" nil check so an explicit 0 is
not swallowed by Helm's default function. A chart-global scaleDown flag
(default false) takes precedence: it renders every workload with
replicas: 0 and suspends the paperless-ngx consume CronJob, stopping the
app without uninstalling it (PVCs, Secrets, Services and Ingress remain).
Defaults leave the rendered manifests byte-identical to main, so all
published charts get a minor version bump; the template-chart carries the
reference helper implementation and stays unversioned.
Fixes#25
Every chart now renders its container resources through a duplicated
_helpers.tpl helper (reference implementation in template-chart): requests
ship as chart defaults, missing memory and ephemeral-storage limits are
computed as resources.limitFactor x the request (default 3, satisfactory
keeps 2 to preserve its previously published 8Gi limit), an explicitly set
limit always wins, and a CPU limit is only rendered when set explicitly.
Fixed limit defaults are removed from all values.yaml files; teamspeak-server
gains a values-driven resources block instead of hardcoded template values.
Major version bump for all published charts.
Add securityContext hardening (runAsNonRoot, readOnlyRootFilesystem,
capabilities drop ALL, allowPrivilegeEscalation false) to the 10 workloads
that lacked it: apache-tika, cyberchef, gotenberg, homeassistant,
matrix-delegation-nginx, paperless-server, paperless-consume cronjob
(plus automountServiceAccountToken false), patchmon-frontend,
urlaubsverwaltung and zipline. All contexts are configurable via
securityContext.pod / securityContext.container in values.yaml; writable
paths are provided as emptyDirs. Image-forced deviations (Home Assistant
root start for s6-overlay + NET_RAW for discovery, paperless root init
container for /run ownership) are documented in the charts' values.yaml.
Major version bump for every changed published chart.
Every container in every Deployment/StatefulSet now defines all three
probes. The paperless-ngx consume CronJob intentionally has none (batch
workload).
- Add probes: apache-tika, calibre-web-automated, cyberchef, gotenberg,
homeassistant, patchmon-backend, samba (tcp/445), teamspeak-server
(tcp/30033), zipline (/api/healthcheck)
- Fix voucher-vault null probe values with real defaults
- Fix startup-probe semantics in template-chart and rallly (no
initialDelaySeconds, generous failureThreshold)
- Switch outline probes to its /_health endpoint
- Add readiness/startup probes to satisfactory
- Add startup probes to matrix-synapse, matrix-delegation-nginx,
paperless-server, patchmon-frontend, urlaubsverwaltung
- Major version bump for all published charts
